 Enjoy the vast beauty of the Great Basin as we take you to five of our mines, including golden opal, turquoise or variscite, fire opal, blue chalcedony, sunstone, and smokey quartz and amethyst mines. Guaranteed to go home with a suitcase (or two) full of rocks since you keep all that you find! Bring basic camping gear including tent. We will be camping out at several different dig sites (optional motel accommodations in available in nearby towns). The main focus of the tour is collecting! $1850 per person, minimum 4 people per trip.
Early Spring Gem Tours include digging for tourmaline, fire agate, thunder eggs, lepidolite, and sapphire specimens. The digging begins at the Himalaya Tourmaline Mine dig site at Lake Henshaw Resort, Santa Ysabel, CA in north-central San Diego County, and travels to dig sites in the Mojave Desert and the rugged San Gabrielle Mountains.

Mid Spring Gem Tours entail digging at 5 of our northern mines including turquoise, variscite, lemon opal, quartz and amethyst scepters, Oregon sunstone, and blue chalcedony thunder eggs. We like to go with the flow of the tour, so if we’re having a good time at one dig site, we can choose to stay another day. This is your gem tour!
